The ‘Tree of Life - NORTH’ is my tribute to resilience and vitality in the northern wilds. I wanted this piece to pulse with energy—swirling branches, vibrant reds, and a waterfall that never stops moving. For me, this tree stands as a symbol of strength, rooted in the land yet always reaching for the sky. Every brushstroke is a reminder that even in the harshest landscapes, life finds a way to thrive despite this tree precariously perched on the rim of Kadunce Canyon looking over the sun rising over Lake Superior.
This artwork captures a striking, surreal landscape dominated by a powerful central tree. The tree’s twisting, organic branches spread dramatically against a vivid, flaming orange sky, creating a dynamic interplay of motion and energy. The use of swirling white lines within the tree’s canopy provides a stark contrast that draws the eye and suggests an almost spiritual or elemental force within the scene. The background features a dense forest with coniferous trees depicted in rich, varied hues of green, deep reds, and yellows, adding layers of depth and texture. The terrain beneath the tree is jagged and rugged, and a waterfall cascades on the left side, its mist adding a sense of movement and life to the composition. Dark shadowed ravines enhance the dramatic tension, guiding the viewer’s gaze inward and emphasizing the tree’s central position as a symbol of resilience or growth amid a fiery, intense environment.
The bold, expressive brushstrokes and rich, saturated colors create a vivid emotional impact, evoking feelings of passion, turmoil, and transformation. The composition balances abstraction with naturalistic elements, inviting viewers to explore both the physical and metaphorical facets of the scene.
